Stationery: the future's BRIGHT

What a fantastic start to 2014! I’ve been to 4 great Trade Shows (National Stationery Week,Spring FairPaperworldTop Drawer) where the mood has been really positive with Buyers and Exhibitors looking forward to the year ahead... and feeling that 2013 wasn’t that bad in the end either!

The best part for me is that all 4 shows oozed great, new, innovative stationery products - both in terms of formats and designs. Even Paperworld, where there was plenty of comment beforehand from those who were sceptical about its ability to survive, turned out to be a really worthwhile trip.
(Read my Paperworld Review on Page 28 of Greetings Today).

Not only have Suppliers decided that it is NEW products that are going to help them survive, but the Manufactures are in a strong enough position to invest in developing new ranges, whilst Retailers are looking to buy new ranges to brighten their shops for spring.

But actually I think it is more than that; stationery is really en vogue at the moment, as beautiful note books, nice pens and coloured inks, and design-led stationery are all reflections of our personality and become fashion accessories.

As we spend more time working it is a real pleasure to use things that are well-designed and functional too, and as many of us look to redress our work life balance, stationery enables us to do some of the things that are being recognised by many of us as being of value: for example, pens and paper enable us to keep in touch in a much more personal way than a text or e mail.

I am off to The Stationery Show in New York later this month and I am hoping it will be the 5th show this year to showcase fabulous stationery. I'll let you know when I return.
